La’man’ain is the indigenous name for Lamanai, which means “submerged crocodile”. This majestic Mayan city was settled sometime around 1500 BC and abandoned in the post classic 1800 AD.
The tour features a boat tour up the historic New River all the way to the ancient Mayan city of Lamanai. On days when Mother Nature is good to us, you will have the opportunity to see the Morlet and American Crocodiles, nocturnal Proboscis insect feeding bats, green and spiny tail iguanas, and an array of orchids and birds all thriving in their natural habitat.
The Belizean sun is unforgiving so be sure to keep your body hydrated throughout the tour. The rain in this part of the country is unpredictable and can come quite suddenly. Keep a waterproof bag handy for your camera and other important items. Your tour guide comes from a family that has been operating this tour for the last 15 years.
Tours to Lamanai are conducted by Lamanai River Tours.
