A Sweet Jem of a Find

We came dirty, tired, and strung out from Caye Caulker, and had found a place in Orange Walk online that was a disaster when we showed up (Ricky’s). We decided to just walk around town and see what else we could find. The Orchid Palm Inn looked super cute with an incredible garden, but we walked a little further and found Hotel de la Fuente. For $40/night (which was a splurge for our budget, but we were exhausted and filthy from a hovel on Caye Caulker), we got a comfy bed, extra blanket, clean towels and plenty of them, free coffee and hot tea any time we wanted it, a cute porch to hang out on, *excellent* recommendations for a cheap and delicious dinner, and a shower with hot water and great water pressure. I’ve never been so happy to spend a few dollars extra. We stayed an extra night because Orange Walk was so easy and fun. The street tacos at the park were amazing, and the hotel even lent us bikes free of charge. A great, great stay!
